Capturing Global Hospitality Excellence: GHA's CEO Conference in Cape Town
As a professional photographer based in Cape Town, I recently had the privilege of documenting the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) annual CEO conference. This prestigious event, held for the first time in South Africa, brought together leaders from 40 hotel brands representing 800 hotels across 100 countries. From April 12th to 14th, 2023, I had the opportunity to capture the essence of this significant gathering in the beautiful settings of Cape Town and its surroundings.
A Historic Gathering in the Mother City
The decision to host the conference in South Africa came after Sun International, one of the country's largest gaming and hospitality groups, joined GHA in 2022. This strategic move expanded GHA's presence on the African continent and brought the alliance's global vision to our shores.
The event kicked off with an informal welcome dinner at The Table Bay's Siba restaurant, setting the tone for the sophisticated yet enjoyable atmosphere that would characterize the entire conference.
Golfing with CEOs and Helicopter Rides
One of the highlights of the event was photographing the CEO Golf outing at the prestigious Royal Cape Golf course. Capturing these industry leaders in a more relaxed setting provided a unique perspective on the networking and relationship-building that occurs outside of formal meetings.
Perhaps the most exhilarating moment came when I had the opportunity to photograph the group's helicopter transfer to the GHA Awards Dinner at Delaire Graff. This spectacular journey not only provided breathtaking aerial views of Cape Town but also symbolized the high-flying ambitions of the alliance.
Star-Studded Awards Dinner
The Awards Dinner at Delaire Graff was undoubtedly the pinnacle of the event. With around 50 attendees, including South African sports legends Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, and Schalk Brits, as well as Miss South Africa Nhlanhla Shezi, the atmosphere was electric. Photographing these luminaries alongside hospitality industry leaders created a fascinating juxtaposition of South African excellence across different fields.
Showcasing Cape Town's Beauty
Throughout the conference, I had the pleasure of capturing various local experiences that showcased the best of Cape Town to the international attendees. From the iconic Table Mountain cable car ride to the trendy Camps Bay and the luxurious Steenberg Hotel & Spa, each location provided a unique backdrop for my photography, highlighting why Cape Town is a world-class destination for both leisure and business travel.
